Farm Science Review
Oct 02, 2008
Every September the Farm Science Review is held at the OSU Molly Caren Farm Facility located 20 miles east of Columbus. This event is the premier agriculture show of the Midwest including animal and crop production systems, 2008 being the 46th year of the review.

Nine years ago the turfgrass pathology team was asked to participate and to have an example of turfgrass demonstration plots at the review. The display has grown to 6 plots of different turfgrass varieties, a synthetic turf display, a building, and new this year (with a donation from Century Equipment) an irrigation system (see picture left).

The turfgrass plots are usually complimented with an additional side display focusing on other turfgrass management practices such as seeding, herbicide application, or core cultivation. This years addition, with donor help from Pioneer Paint and John Mott from OSU Facilities Operation and Development, was turf logo painting displays. The logos consisted of 3 block O's. Two 12-footers and one large 35 ft display.

Attendees to the review have made the turfgrass area a perennial stop during their visit. There are many questions and individuals seeking information about turfgrass and pest management recommendations for the home lawn, farm stead, areas around ponds and landing strips, sports fields (especially the local high school football field), golf course, parks and commercial lawns.

Attendance at this years review was up, with over 125,000 people attending over the three day show. Plan to attend next years Farm Science Review on September 22 ~ 24, 2009 and visit the web site: Farm Science Review
