Doubleheader
Monday, 14 May 2007

On Thursday May 10th, the turfgrass students had the opportunity to hear two guest speakers within a two hour period.  Although neither speaker was involved with baseball, the title for this news note is appropriate.

First, the OSU Turfgrass Management Club hosted Mr. Bob Becker, assistant superintendent at Scioto Country Club who spoke at 5 pm on the proposed greens renovations that will start on May 9th.  Following Mr. Becker's talk the club had a cookout.  Fortunately, the club's advisor Dr. David Gardner is a professional grill master, at least ranked against the students.

Some of those students then went to Pam Sherratt's H&CS 594 class entitled "SportsTurf Management" that started at 6 pm at the OTF Research and Educational Center.  The class speaker was Mr. Darian Daily, grounds manager for the Cincinnati Bengals' Paul Brown Stadium, who spoke on what it is like to be an NFL Grounds Manager.
