Wes & Brett Step-up at the Crew PDF Print E-mail
Friday, 03 August 2007

Columbus Crew MLS recently announced their new field crew. Weston Appelfeller (right) has been promoted from assistant groundskeeper to Director of Stadium Grounds and his assistant, Brett Tanner has also been promoted to an assistant field manager postion. Both Wes and Brett are recent graduates of the OSU Turfgrass Science Program.

Wes completed internships and work experience at the Boston Red Sox with Dave Mellor and at the OSU Dept. of Athletics with Brian Gimbel. He started working at Crew Stadium in 2006 as the first assistant to Matt Williams. Brett interned at Crew Stadium and at Arsenal Premiership Football Club in England in 2007.

During their internships, both of them received rave reviews and job offers, so it is fitting that they have been recognised by Columbus Crew as suitable managers of the professional soccer stadium & practice facilities.

Wes understands that his role has now switched from trainee to trainer and he says the following "my goal is to continue  the work we do with students interns, to mentor them and help them succeed in this industry".

He and Brett have some exciting years ahead with the development of a new state-of-the-art training facility and more events planned at Crew Stadium.
