Karl Danneberger, a professor in the Department of Horticulture and Crop Science, was selected as a recipient of the prestigious Fulbright Senior Specialist in Agriculture award. During Karl's grant period, he was at the University of Tras-os-Montes and Alto Douro (UTAD) in Portugal (see TurfNote posting "Postcards from Portugal").
"Needless to say it is quite an honor and privilege to receive a grant award from the Fulbright Senior Specialists Program," said Danneberger. "To be able to work with a collegue Dr. Nuno Moreira at UTAD on enhancing the turfgrass program is exciting." The Senior Specialists program is designed to provide opportunities for collaboration between U.S. and non-U.S. faculty and professional counterparts at post-secondary academic institutions. Grant award recipients are matched by discipline with project requests submitted from abroad through Fulbright Commissions and U.S. Embassies. Fulbright Senior Specialists are chosen through a rigorous peer review process conducted by the Council for International Exchange of Scholars (CIES) - a division of the Institute of International Education. Final approval of candidates is granted by the J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board and Bureau of Education and Cultural Affairs of the Department of State.
