The Toro Company/Nicklaus Marketing and Communications Award Turfgrass Science Scholarship PDF Print E-mail
Thursday, 14 February 2008

Nicklaus Toro Award The Toro Company, in honor of Jack Nicklaus, has begun a $100,000 scholarship endowment at The Ohio State University.  The scholarship is to benefit an undergraduate freshman student in Turfgrass Science.

Daniel Davis has been selected to receive the first-ever award of this scholarship.  Dan is from Liberty Center, Ohio and is a first generation four-year college student.  He got interested in golf as a high school sophomore and joined the golf team.  Dan has worked for three years at a golf course near his home.  He decided to major in turfgrass science because of his love for golf and for being on a golf course.  His career aspiration is to become a golf course superintendent, and he is a member of the University Turf Club.

On campus to congratulate Dan were John Lawrence, director of the Toro Company; Paul Latshaw, superintendent at Muirfield Village Golf Club; Century Toro representative Joe Encisco; Dr. Karl Danneberger of the turfgrass science faculty; and Dr. Bobby Moser, dean of the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences and vice president for Agricultural Administration and University Outreach and Engagement. (left to right: Joe Encisco, Paul Latshaw, John Lawrence, Daniel Davis, and Bobby Moser)
