OSU Turf Club 2008Announcing the 2008-2009 Officers of the Ohio State Turf Club:

Left-right: JJ Lake (OTF Liason), Joe Lachey (Treasurer), Matt Young (VP Golf), President Case Levally, John Torres (VP Sports), and Robbie Dworkin (Fundraising Chair).

The Turf Club is a student organisation led by Dr. Dave Gardner. There are approx. 30 members in the club at any one time. Their role is to raise funds for the annual trips to the GIS and STMA conferences where they take part in the collegiate quiz bowls.  In 2007, bothThe Ohio Turfgrass Foundation and The Ohio Sports Turf Managers Association also gave money to help sponsor these trips.

In addition to fundraising activities, the turf club meets on a regular basis to put on social events such as playing golf or attending baseball games. This is a great way for new turfgrass science students to meet other students and start networking in the industry. The club also interacts with the turfgrass science team at conferences and field days.

Getting the turf students involved through networking and event organisation is invaluable to them and teaches them both leadership and interpersonal skills that they'll use in their careers.
