Tuesday, 13 May 2008

Congratulations to Chris Fox (left, with Joe Motz) named the 2008 Sports Turf Student of the Year. The award, given in honor of industry pioneer Joe Motz, recognizes a student that personifies excellence, both in the classroom and in the sports turf industry.

As part of his studies, Chris interned at Ohio State Athletics and at the Cleveland Browns NFL Stadium.  Chris Powell, Field Manager at the Browns, said the following: "Hitting the ground running was how Chris Fox started his internship and his pace never slowed. His grasp and understanding of the concepts allowed him to eagerly pursue and build on each and every task to become the best he can be. Chris proved to be an excellent intern and his hard work and dedication is directing him towards a successful career".

Since graduation Chris has accepted a position at Columbus Crew Stadium as an assistant groundsman.

Previous winners include Erica Titus (currently in the graduate program at MSU), Rodney Bockwrath (OSU Intramural Sports), Weston Appelfeller (Boston Red Sox) and Russell Horn (Cleveland Browns)
