Graduate Student Looks at Compost Use on Sports Fields PDF Print E-mail
Friday, 24 July 2009

Marcela Munoz recently joined the turfgrass science team at Ohio State to work on her Masters degree. She did her undergraduate degree in agronomy at the Pontificia Universidad Catolica De Chile in Santiago, Chile.  Her BS research project was on Poa control with Velocity herbicide. Marcela first came to Ohio State in the summer of 2006 to work as a research assistant at the turfgrass research facility. While she was in Chile she also worked at a golf course and at a horse-racing club.  She is an avid soccer player (she played  on the women's team at the university) and loves to be around the sports industry, so is pursuing a career in sports turf management.

Her MS research "Evaluation of Compost and Compost Topdressing Programs for Enhancing the Playability and Sustainability of Established Soil-Based Athletic Turf", started this summer. Her advisor is Dr. John Street and her committee comprises Dr. Karl Dannerberger, Dr. Dave Gardner and Dr. Ed McCoy.

Marcela has quickly become part of the sports turf community in the USA by joining professional associations and attending conferences. She is currently in Santiago, Chile, presenting a poster of her research at the International Turfgrass Research Conference and she will be presenting her research at the OTF Research Field Day on August 12th
