OSU Student Turf Club Holds First Annual Golf Tournament PDF Print E-mail
Wednesday, 09 September 2009
OSU Golf Tournament The Turf Club at OSU held a golf tournament on September 6th at Homestead Springs Golf Course in Groveport Ohio. The Tournament was an 18-hole scramble format that was set up to raise money for the club’s 2009-2010 activities. Many turf industry companies and golf courses generously donated items to the turf club to be raffled off and used as door prizes. The tournament was won by a team from Scioto Country Club who finished the day with a 14-under 58.  The Scioto team donated the prize money back to the Turf Club. The club was able to raise over $1,700 from the tournament!  The money raised is used to subsidize student trips to the national GCSAA and STMA conferences. The club will continue raising money throughout the fall for the trips in January and February.  Traditional fundraisers have been picking up trash on campus, painting OSU logos in yards and manning the coat check at the OTF Conference and Show. The club would like to send a special thanks to Bruce Rainer, Golf Course Superintendent for his help in assembling the event  (photo: OSU Turf students, Robbie Dworkin, Joe Emberger and Seth Rainier along with superintendent Bruce Rainier, handing out door prizes and raffle items).
