Welcome to College! This isn’t high school anymore…

"The classes and other activities at Ohio State have changed my life in a major way."
"When I came to OSU I knew there would be many good times outside of class and figured that the class portion would be a boring struggle. I was right about the extracurricular activities, but I found the classes to be much more than I expected."

"You fall in love with the landmarks and the sports that the overall University provides, but the smaller group of people on Ag Campus is what has made me feel comfortable."

WHERE WILL I LIVE?

Your choice! Most of the first year students live in one of our 28 residence halls on campus…if you want, you can even live and learn with fellow plant science students in the Norton House.

WHAT IS THERE TO DO AFTER CLASS?

When you’re ready to take a break from the books, there are countless events happening on campus and around Columbus each and every day. You’ll never be bored; in fact, you’ll probably have trouble deciding how many intramural teams you can compete on, which concert to attend, and how many multi-cultural events you can fit in.

 WHAT ABOUT FOOTBALL GAMES?

Yes, you can go to games at the Horseshoe! So you may not be sitting on the 50-yard-line, but who cares when you are cheering on the Buckeyes with 100,000 of your closest friends?

WHO GETS TO PLAY THE OHIO STATE GOLF COURSE?

You do!  Any full time student at Ohio State is welcome to play at one of the countries best collegiate facilities.  Join greats such as Jack Nicklaus and Tom Weiskopf as those who have walked the fairways of the Alister McKenzie designed Ohio State Golf Club.  With a freshly renovated Scarlet course, an enlarged practice facility, and the always fun Gray course holding your tee time, you’ll be the envy of almost every golfer in Columbus.

SHOULD I JOIN A STUDENT ORGANIZATION?

Sure, but only if you want to make friends, learn about activities planned, and get a jump on job opportunities in your field. While the Turfgrass Club is the most popular student organization for Turf students, there are several other organizations that also offer students a chance to compete in national events, host sales and learn about the plant science industry: Landscape and Floriculture Forum (LAFF), Crops and Soils Club, Student Chapter of The Associated Landscape Contractors of America (ALCA), and Pi Alpha Xi (PAX). You can also check out the OSU Student Organization Directory.

WHAT IS THERE TO DO IN COLUMBUS?

With the heart of a big city minutes down High Street, your options are limitless.  The first stop on the ride south takes you to the Short North.  Another few minutes and you can be in the Arena District, German Village, or on the steps at the State Capital.  With all the different communities around Columbus such a short trip away, you'll never have to look far for something to do.  To keep up on the latest of what's going on after class, just grab yourself a copy of The Lantern or Columbus Alive.
