Sports Turf Professionalism

The Certified Sports Turf Managers (CSFM) Program was developed by the Sports Turf Managers Assocation (STMA) to recognize professionals within the sports turf industry. Similar to the CGCS status in the golf course turf industry, becoming a CSFM relies on the knowledge of managing turf and draws upon all aspects of background in education and experience to prove that the recipient is one of the best in the industry. There are currently around 70 CSFMs nationwide.

Attaining CSFM status requires field managers to accumulate 40 points. The points are awarded for a combination of education & experience. Once the 40 points are accumulated, there is a certification exam that can be taken at the National STMA Conference & Exhibition each January or by a "proctor". Ohio State has proctor status. Any turf manager in Ohio that has accumulated the 40 points and is ready to take the CSFM exam but cannot go to the national conference should contact the OSU turf program.
